1. Intentional Community: I understand that ReligionAndPublicLife.org places the highest priority on building an intentional community where everyone takes shared responsibility for the quality of our communication. We are not simply a social network or a learning management system. We are a social learning community that believes that humans learn best together. I understand this mission and seek to be a meaningful contributor to this intentional community of learners, educators, and leaders.

2. Hospitality: I understand that ReligionAndPublicLife.org defines hospitality not as “anyone with an email can join” but as welcoming and getting to know real humans who intend to participate in an authentic community. This respect that this relational process takes time, especially for a nonprofit organization raising funds to build this technological ecosystem from scratch. I agree to help create a culture of hospitality by actively welcoming new learners, introducing myself, and helping them navigate the community.

3. Stakeholder: I understand that I am not a consumer of ReligionAndPublicLife.org products. I am a unique stakeholder who seeks to build upon the community’s success. I join with other members not as spectators of technological advancements but as stakeholders in advancing human relations. I join my colleagues in taking shared responsibility for countering a demeaning culture by making meaning together.

4. Genuine Profile: I understand that the social learning community at ReligionAndPublicLife.org prioritizes the quality of our membership rather than the number of accounts that, in other networks, can result in a graveyard of empty and inactive profiles. I agree to create and maintain a genuine profile to help co-creating a counterculture built on the quality of its human members.

5. Authenticity: I am a human being interested in using ReligionAndPublicLife.org to enrich my personal or professional development. I will secure my account and will not give access to anyone else. No other human being, software, or artificial intelligence will complete my work. I alone articulate my ideas and create my academic submissions. I am a unique person with distinctive contributions, and I understand that this social learning community values my authentic voice.

6. Honesty: I will ensure that contributions are truthful when preparing academic submissions and commenting on discussion forums and private messages. I will not fabricate sources, information, results, or citations to justify my positions. I will practice intellectual honesty.

7. Verified Sources: I will use verified sources to ground my perspectives, communication, and assignment. I am committed to working with my colleagues on ReligionAndPublicLife.org to combat misinformation (false or inaccurate) and disinformation (maliciously and deliberately misleading).

8. Uniqueness: My written and verbal contributions are uniquely my own. I promise not to plagiarize another person’s words, works, ideas, research methods or results, or media in any form without proper quotations and attributions. I will be transparent about what ideas and words are my own and what are others. I will cite others’ thoughts and work to distinguish my unique thoughts from those of others.

9. Verified Learning. I understand that ReligionAndPublicLife.org engages in verified learning, using technology to confirm how long I spent on the lessons and whether I completed the tasks, games, videos, and audio exercises. I promise not to skip the online lessons, modules, and activities. I will not claim I finished them if I cannot complete them. I am committed to being an ethical participant, ensuring that each time I mark a complete lesson, I am confident that I completed every aspect of that lesson. I will only complete the course’s mid- and post-surveys after completing the prerequisite activities. I am committed to verifying my online learning to maximize my personal and professional development. I take full responsibility for my engagement on ReligionAndPublicLife.org.
