Standpoint
Throughout this ReligionAndPublicLife.org, you are encouraged to listen for the standpoints of others and to refine your own.
Standpoint theory defines the “perspectives acquired from one’s lived life... Our ability to take into account the influences of gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic class as well as other aspects of identity has been greatly influenced by the concept of positionality, literally one’s stance with respect to knowing, making meaning, and making commitments.”
Students are encouraged to acknowledge their own standpoint and to acknowledge the standpoints of others.
